State Presents Checks to Local Senior Centers

Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability Executive Director James Dunn and 72nd District Representative Kirk Haston presented checks to each of the three senior citizen centers in Henderson County, November 16, 2022.
Each center was awarded $8,000 grants from the TCAD on August 10, 2022.
The grants were part of this year’s state budget. The Tennessee General Assembly allocated $1 million for senior centers, an $800,000 increase over last year’s budget.
Sardis Senior Citizens Club director Tammy Martin told Dunn, that they plan on using the funds to repair their building. Dunn said he wanted to thank Rep. Haston for voting to approve the funds for the grant.
The state’s population over 65-years-old has reached 1.6 million. In 2024 there will be more people over 65 than other age groups.
