Area Physician Completes COVID-19 Do-it-Yourself Half Ironman at Natchez Trace State Park

On Saturday, May 30, 2020, Dr. Robert G. Day, a native and resident of Jackson, TN, and a 48 year old family practice physician at the West Tennessee Medical Group’s Lexington Medical Center in Lexington, TN, completed a Covid Do-It-Yourself Half Ironman at Natchez Trace State Park.

Dr. Day’s Covid Do-It-Yourself Half Ironman included a 1.2 mile swim in Pin Oak Lake, a 56 mile bike ride and finished with a 13.1 mile (1/2 marathon) run for a total of 70.3 miles. Robert completed the 70.3 mile solo event in 8 hours, 30 minutes and 26 seconds! Jack Wafler, a training companion, joined Dr. Day for the 13.1 mile run. Since the DIY event had no sponsorship, Dr. Day relied upon support from wife Brandi, daughter Hannah, father Danny Day, relatives, friends and Natchez Trace visitors.

Dr. Day was registered and training for the SUNBELT BAKERY IRONMAN 70.3 CHATTANOOGA, originally scheduled for May 17, but now postponed until August 23. Since Robert’s training was scheduled to peak in May and the IRONMAN 70.3 CHATTANOOGA was postponed due to Covid-19, he scheduled his…
