Henderson County will now fall under Tennessee building construction code inspections after a motion to “opt out” or not take part in the program failed to pass the commission by one vote on Tuesday night.
A motion to “opt out” failed on a 9-5 vote. Ten votes were needed for the two-thirds majority to approve opting out of the program.
The Lexington Progress will have more about the program in next week’s edition.
The commissioners also tabled (postponed) a plan to issue bonds (borrow money) for building and road repairs.
Across town, the Lexington Board of Mayor and Alderman postponed the approval of a contract with the Beech River Watershed Development Authority for a dredging program at Beech Lake. The board wants city attorney Ken Walker to review the contract and BRWDA Executive Secretary Keith Wish to appear before the board to explain the program.
