The Lexington City Board wrestled with issues that it cannot seem to escape, speed bumps, employee benefits, and the city budgets when they met on Tuesday, May 26th.

The bottom line, those pesky speed bumps were going back down in Eastern Shores subdivision in July, and some of the city’s budgets were narrowly approved on a first reading.

In two separate meetings, totaling three hours, aldermen heard citizens on the issue of speed bumps with Mayor Gordon Wildridge pointing out that only one group picked up a new petition following last month’s meeting so once the city has money for asphalt in the next budget cycle, the speed bumps in the Eastern Shores subdivision would be reinstalled.

Aldermen also declared more clearly any conflicts of interests they had with the city budgets. The Lexington Electric System and  LexNet budgets were approved unanimously, however the Lexington Gas System and General Fund budgets were approved on a 4-3 vote. Lexington Gas System Budget, failed to win approval with a 4-3 vote.

The board also voted to change the way longevity pay is awarded, changed employee bonuses from $500 to $250 for and paused step raises for one year.
