The First Paul Caywood Years (1930-1940)

The Paul G. Caywood coaching years cover three different periods; the football seasons of 1930 through 1940; the seasons of 1945 through 1947; and the 1962 season.

Paul Caywood, who was born and raised at Flat Rock, IL, attended Union University where also local Dick Stewart attended and played sports.  This became the connection of Caywood to be hired as LHS football in 1930.

LHS football records in the 1930s are incomplete for the lack of newspaper write-ups and school recordings. The 1932 team was 8-1-1, the 1933 team 9-1, and the 1936 team, 8-1-1. Caywood’s overall known record for the 1930s was…
