Festival of the Lakes Celebrates July 4th

Boat parades, beauty pageants, fireworks, and music helped entertain attendees at the annual Festival of the Lakes, July 4th.
Local Attorney Howard Douglass was the grand marshal of the boat parade around Beech Lake. Douglass was president of the Lexington Jaycees, which brought the Johnny Cash concert to Beech Lake in 1969.
Those participating in the board parade decorated their boats with patriotic themes.
