Bird Tells Rotary of His Marathon Experience

Lexington’s Matthew Bird spoke to the Lexington Rotary Club recently telling of his experience in the ultra-marathon, “The Last Annual Vol State Race.”

Bird was the guest of Steve Meyer at the club’s November 1st meeting.

The 314-mile (500K) race brought Bird through his hometown where friends and family met him at one of the rest stops. After running in the top ten for much of the race, Bird finished 13th out of 113 participants with a time of five days, 12 hours, 31 minutes, and 10 seconds.

The course was from Dorena Landing, Missouri to Castle Rock, Georgia and came through Lexington, Bird’s hometown.

Runners were from across the United States, two from Sweden, five from Canada, one each from Japan and Great Britain. The unique multi-day race started on July 14, 2022.
