Broadband, Cemetery, and Housing are Topics of Discussion for City Board Work Session, Meeting

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen for Lexington held a special called meeting at 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. In this session, the board approved a resolution that is the next step in the Lexington Electric System’s business plan to provide broadband internet to the public. A public hearing was set for February 28, 2022, which is the next step of the process.

During the monthly work session, the board discussed LES general manager’s authority to make purchases, without a bid, to fall in line with the state purchase cap requirements.

General Manager Jeff Graves also discussed the timeline of the broadband internet grant application. The LES business plan will need to be submitted by March 15, 2022, with announcement of the grant awardees sometime in June, 2022.
