Parker’s Crossroads had an overwhelming crowd for the 3rd Annual Sonic Drive In’s Hamburger and Hot Rod Nationals on Saturday, June 19, 2021, and brought well over 300 classic and hot rod cars from across the nation. “The event just keeps getting bigger every year,” said co-sponsor Mark Ward, “and I’m already working on an expanded event for 2022.”

Mark works with Jerry and Beverly Stanfill, who have 19 Sonics in the area. “The name is a local creation, but Sonic National is getting interested in the event, so don’t be surprised if it starts to spread,” said Mark. The name and the event are both Henderson County originals. Mark said that he and Jerry were driving down the road and talking about promotions and hit on the idea of a car show.

Mark specializes in custom car auctions and had the contacts who would have the most interest. Mark laughed and said, “Let’s call it Sonic Drive In’s Hamburger and Hot Rod Nationals…that sounds about as American as you can get!”

The event started with prayer, the National anthem, and the posting of the colors by American Legion Post #77 Honor Guard. Mark also introduced Steve McDaniel with the City of Parkers Crossroads and J.D. Dunkle with West Tennessee Dive Rescue and Recovery for their assistance with…
