County Commission Meets to Discuss Budget, Redistricting Committee

The Henderson County Commission met on Monday evening June 7, 2021, at the Henderson County Criminal Justice Complex.
The following notaries were approved: Angie Davis, Jo Ann Faught, Stephani Leah Foster, Cheryl B. Maness, Shasta L. Melton, Sabriy Muhammad, Kara C. Perdue, and Melanie Stone.
The commission also further discussed the proposed FY 2021/2022 budget which will be printed for two weeks in The Lexington Progress. (The June 9th edition ran the right budget, but was entitled with the wrong year, 2020/2021. The June 16th edition will be correctly entitled 2021/2022.)
The non-profit committee will meet in July to make recommendations on applications that were received by the March 31st deadline, with a budget approval date set tentatively for June 21st.
The commission approved transfers as recommended by the budget committee and Henderson County Finance Director Lee Wilkinson, and received an update on the maintenance on the north communications tower.
The hotel/motel tax increase, from 5% to 7%, was recently approved by the state legislature and confirmed by the commissioners.
Also, due to the changes in the 2020 census, each of the counties in Tennessee will need to undergo redistricting, and a redistricting committee was approved by the commission. The committee will be composed of…
