Memorial Day Event at the Henderson County Courthouse

The guest speaker for the Memorial Day celebration held at the Henderson County Courthouse was Senior Master Sergeant Ben Park.

With the lessening of the COVID-19 restrictions and the heat of the holiday, the Memorial Day celebration event was held this year in the old court room at the Henderson County Courthouse.

American Legion Post #77 sponsors the annual event, with the posting of the colors by their Honor Guard, and an opening address by Post Commander Hobart Powers. The invocation was led by Bobby King, with the National Anthem by Cassidy Pollock, and other patriotic songs by Karlee Willis.

The guest speaker this year was Senior Master Sergeant Ben Park, who retired in September 2020 with twenty years of service in the United States Air Force. He then moved to Lexington to teach in the JROTC program at Lexington High School. Spending time in service was a great benefit to Park, “It taught me about duty, it taught me about life,” he said.
