Woman Charged with Child Abuse
Julie Smith, age 39, was arrested on February 22, 2021 and charged with Child Abuse and Neglect and Violation of Community Corrections by the Lexington Police Department.

On February 22, 2021, Patrolman Rocky Scott, of the Lexington Police Department, arrested Julie Rae Smith, age 39, for child abuse and neglect and violation of community corrections. Patrolman Scott had responded to a welfare check called in by the landlord.
According to the court documents, it was alleged that the defendant was not at the residence when the officer arrived, and had left minor children at the residence while staying with a male friend at another location the day prior. The affidavit states that there was an active case with the Department of Children’s Services, who had made a relative placement two weeks prior to allow the cleaning of the residence and had not granted permission for the children to return.
