Hart Farm Receives Century Farm Designation

The Hart Farm in Henderson County, Tennessee has been recognized as a Century Farm by the State of Tennessee Department of Agriculture.

Founded in 1914, the Hart Family Farm is located south of Highway 100 in Henderson County. James Andrew Hart and his wife, Lillie Mae Turner Hart, owned 279 acres. The family of 15 raised corn, cotton, cattle, mules, pigs, chickens, horses, hay, and vegetables. Big Hurricane Creek runs through the farm and was dredged in 1923; like the other landowners along the creek, the Harts paid for the dredging done on their land (see photo of three of the daughters on the dredging equipment). By 1947, both James and Lille Mae had passed away, and the farm was divided, with 7 of the 13 children keeping parts of the farm and…
