Remembering the Big Pecan Tree at Natchez Trace State Park

When I was growing up, I had never seen a giant Sequoyah, but I had seen the giant pecan tree at Natchez Trace State Park. You had to travel outside of Henderson County for just a bit, but it was worth the sight.

The social media page from Natchez Trace State Park recently featured a photograph and a little history of the tree. It’s no longer with us, but it is still in many of our hearts and minds.

“The Big Pecan Tree of Natchez Trace State Park was one of the world’s largest pecan trees. It was measured as 106 feet in height, 18 feet 2 inches in circumference, with a limb spread of 136 feet.”

“Accepted tradition says this tree had grown from a pecan given to Sukey Morris by one of Andrew Jackson’s men as they traveled homeward after the Battle of New Orleans.”

    This beautiful tree was still growing with everything she had when they cut it down, we still love it out there won’t be the same though.
