Wise Receives LPD Officer of the Year

Patrolman Kevin B. Wise was selected by his peers as the Lexington Police Department’s 2020 Officer of the Year. Patrolman Wise serves as the School Resource Officer (S.R.O.) at Lexington Middle School. Whitney Owens, Principal at LMS, called out into the gymnasium where teachers, students, law enforcement, and Lexington Mayor Jeff Griggs were waiting, “I’m about to bring in Officer Wise, and when he comes through the door, I want you to make some noise!” And they did, greeting him with a standing ovation, shouts, and cheers for the much-loved officer.

“What you do for us, for this school, for me, each and every day…you are our friend,” said Owens as she brought Wise forward towards the podium.

Lexington Police Chief Roger Loftin said that the award is usually given at the LPD Christmas Banquet, but that was cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 situation. “The best place to make this award is where you serve, at LMS. We are glad to call you part of our team, and are proud of what you do here every day at the school,” said Chief Loftin.
