HCN Battles Decatur County Middle to End Season with a Win

If you attended the Henderson County North versus Decatur County Middle School game on Thursday night, September 24, 2020 in Lexington, you definitely got your money’s worth as both teams battled like two heavyweight contenders. The game was back and forth and settled in the final minute of the contest. The HCN Tigers would eventually come out on top by a score of 16-14.

With six minutes left to go in the ballgame, the score was tied at zero. Decatur County was the first to score behind a strong drive, in which they ran the fullback almost exclusively. The Panthers would convert on the 2-point conversion to take the lead, 8-0. Running behind a determined offensive line, the HCN Tigers drove the field as Jakob Davis, Alex Wallace, and Ashton Montague all touched the ball. Davis scored the touchdown to make the score 8-6, then Wallace would score the 2-point conversion to tie the game behind a tremendous block by Freddy Vega, Jr. in which Vega destroyed the defender who was about to tackle Wallace.

As most in attendance thought the game would probably head to overtime, the Panthers connected on a long pass play that set them up for another score. The Tigers denied the Panthers on their two-point conversion, but with a 14-8 lead and only 1:26 left to play in the game, the Panthers were…
