The special guest speaker for the September 22, 2020 Lexington Rotary club was Brian White, Director with the Henderson County UT Extension Office. He grew up in the Ebenezer Community and went to Scotts Hill High and then graduated from UT Martin. Mr. Jim McKee helped him start with UT Extension and White started as a county agent position. The term “extension” refers to an education and information system and involves schools, research and information. Within extension you have agriculture, community research and development, and 4-H.
Agriculture includes livestock, crops, orchards and even poultry and most of the funding comes from grants. Funding from Henderson County is about 22%. Agriculture is still the number one enterprise in Henderson County from a financial revenue standpoint. The value of the products sold in Henderson County brings in about $29 million.
