Commissioner Long Addresses Rotary on Homeland Security

The special guest speaker for the September 8, 2020 Lexington Rotary Club was Commissioner Jeff Long, with the Tennessee Deptaretment of Homeland Security. Commissioner Long said that he felt like he was back home, as he had married a Lexington girl some 46 years ago and always enjoys being in the area. The Department of Homeland Security, through its various activities has weathered more than just the COVID-19 situation, but among other things there were various protests in the state capital for sixty days straight. He had a short video that showed some of the protests in Nashville, chanting “Why are you in riot gear, we don’t see a riot here,” however, the officers in the Tennessee Highway Patrol were far from being outfitted in riot gear, they were dressed in their Class A uniforms. “They had all kinds of things thrown at them during those sixty days, from water to urine, and the troopers never…
