South Haven Elementary Starts Journalism Club

“How do you get your stories?” one young lady asked, “What inspired you to be a journalist?” asked another. The entire classroom was vibrant, enthusiastic and hanging on to every word. Today I felt like a celebrity and speaking at the newly formed Journalism/Newspaper Club at South Haven Elementary just may have been the highlight of my career.
Kerri Foster is the sponsor for the club, which is composed of about eighteen 6th, 7th and 8th graders. “I just want them to hear from professionals and maybe have a chance to ask questions,” Foster said in a request to The Lexington Progress. I met with them on Friday morning, August 16th, for perhaps their second meeting as a club.
Deadlines, layouts, graphics, camera equipment, ways to document the interviews, fact checking, networking, story formats and basic elements, the topics covered by these middle schoolers were every bit as on point and…
