The special guest speaker for the August 20th Lexington Rotary Club was SEC Football official Mike Taylor. He was introduced by his good friend Tommy Gordon. He is originally from Jackson, Tennessee and has officiated locally. He has friends in Lexington and said that Lexington has been known for the quality of its high school and college officials, especially the late Newman Ramsey.
He started sports in Madison County and fell in love with officiating after working a jamboree in Humboldt while in high school. He found it as a way to give back to the community, scholarships for college, and more especially a wonderful group of people who were key officials.
