June 14th commemorates a powerful event in our country, the adoption of the United States Flag in 1777. American Legion Post #77, Lexington, uses the opportunity on Flag Day to gather and retire worn out American flags in a ceremony called the “Dignified Disposal of Unserviceable Flags.” Members of Post #77 came together that evening for supper, greeting each visitor as they brought in their flags for disposal. “The post assembles in meeting, out-of-doors, at night.
