Notice – The Lexington City School Board has cancelled the special called meeting and director’s interviews for Tuesday night, August 8th. Board Chairman, Rob Helms, explained that a state education statute governs certain contracting. In the case of The Lexington City Schools System, the election of board members on September 14th is a barrier. “The statute won’t allow a contract between a school board and a director forty-five days before an election, or until thirty days after,” Helms said.
The earliest a director of schools could be contracted would be pushed by the statute to October 15th. “We’ll have to go back to the idea of using an interim,” said Helms. The board will discuss the use of an interim at their regular scheduled meeting, which will be Tuesday, August 15th, at 6:30 p.m.
