As the 4th of July closes in, many people make plans to attend the Festival of the Lakes event at Beech Lake. Many people go to experience an exciting atmosphere as well as celebrate the country’s establishment as an independent nation. However, the celebration around Beech Lake wouldn’t be possible if there was no Beech Lake.
Dick Barry was an advisor for Governor Buford Ellington and Governor Frank Clement. In the late 50s to early 60s, a solution to flooding in Henderson County was being sought after. Dick Barry’s solution was the development of lakes in Henderson County.
