At 4:08 p.m., on Wednesday, April 12th, The Lexington Police Department responded to an urgent call at 37 Teakwood, in Pope Subdivision. They were advised by the complainant that there was an armed elderly man at the residence. Captain Jeff Middleton, of LPD, said that officers were met outside the home by the man. “There was a brief interaction with the officers, and the man was detained,” said Middleton. “Shot were discharged by the officers, but the suspect was not hit.” Middleton said that a handgun was taken from the man, who was taken to the Henderson County Community Hospital, where he is still being treated and is not in custody.
“In instances like these, an investigation proceeds to discover if the use of force was necessary,” Middleton said. The District Attorney’s office was informed for over sight purposes. “The officers do wear body cams,” Middleton responded when asked and added that “We are still collecting evidence and speaking to witnesses this morning.”
Updates will be provided as they are received.
