Phase two of the search for possible Confederate burial sites began Thursday, March 2nd. Ground penetrating radar was used a few weeks ago in the first phase of the search. The radar identified three sites that qualified for the phase two dig. Hugh Matternest is a mortuary archaeologist with New South Associates. He came up from Stone Mountain Georgia to participate in the trenching of the three most likely areas determined from the ground radar search.
