Father Faces Felony Child Abuse

Felony aggravated child abuse charges have been filed against a Lexington father in the severe burning of his one year-old child.
Donnie R. Davis, 34, of South Main Street in Lexington, is charged with aggravated child abuse, a Class A felony that carries the same classification as murder charges.
According to Lexington Police Lieutenant Investigator Donna Hetherington, the charges stem from Davis’ one-year old son receiving severe burns from an oven door left open.
“Baking had been taking place and it was very hot,” said Hetherington.
The child sustained third-degree burns on his stomach and first and second-degree burns on his hands.
According to police, the child was also disciplined for crying after the burns were sustained.
The father transported the child to the local hospital and he was later airlifted to Vanderbilt Burn Center in Nashville. The child could be released in the next day or two, police said Tuesday morning.
Lexington Police were notified Tuesday, April 29 at about 2:30 p.m. that the child was being treated for burns at the Henderson County Community Hospital emergency room.
Lexington Police have been in consultation with District Attorney General Jerry Woodall since the time of the incident.
Davis was arraigned Tuesday morning and an appearance date was set for Wednesday, May 21 at 8:30 a.m.
He remains in the Henderson County Jail on $250,000 bond. Other charges are pending, said Hetherington.

Last Wednesday South Side School held a classic May Day. Children participated in events such as the 50 & 100 yard dash, a sack race, jumping contests, and a softball throw.

Several musical groups are expected to provide plenty of folk and blue grass tunes. Pack up your lawn chairs and expect to spend the day visiting and shopping. Numerous vendors and craftsmen will provide endless hours of entertainment. You are also urged to dress in period clothing if you wish. Former Candidate Faces Sexual Battery
A former candidate for county office has been charged with trespassing and sexual battery involving a 14 year-old female. Jimmy L. Gibson, 39, of Highway 22A, was charged Monday and turned himself in at the Lexington Police Department, according to LPD reports. The girl reportedly was babysitting at a residence in Lexington and was playing outside with the children. As they prepared to go inside, Gibson helped put up bicycles and toys. While the teen and one of the children were still outside, she observed Gibson go inside “uninvited,” according to the report. He reportedly followed her and one of the children into a room, held the teen’s hands and rubbed his cheeks to hers, the report stated. He then left the residence.
