(1-30-13)-- After Tuesday night’s game against the Middleton Lady Tigers, the Scotts Hill Lady Lions can now say that they have defeated every team in District 15A. Although it will take a tournament to decide the District Champion, Scotts Hill will most likely be a part of the title game. Tuesday the SHHS Lady Lions improved their district record to 8-1, after winning a 42-39 thriller over Middleton.
The Lady Lions had a great first half as they held a 27-19 lead at halftime. In the second half, Middleton began to find more success on offense and cut Scotts Hill’s lead to 4 points by the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the gloves were off and numerous fouls erupted from both teams. With less than two minutes remaining, Middleton gained the lead after a couple of shots from the sympathy stripe as a result of a Scotts Hill foul. Another SHHS foul immediately followed, and the Lady Tigers picked up two more free throws to increase their lead to 38-35. With thirty seconds remaining, Scotts Hill’s Chelsea Wyatt hustled the ball down the court for a two point basket. However, another trip to free throw line gave Middleton one more point to add to their lead, making the score 39-37 (M). Then, with less than fifteen seconds left in the game Chloe Roberts hit a critical basket to tie the score at 39-39. During the shot, Roberts drew a foul from Middleton defenders and followed up with a single free throw to give the Lady Lions a 40-39 lead. After another Middleton foul, Delayna Gant made a trip to the free throw line where she tacked on two more points helping the Lady Lions secure the 42-39 victory over the Lady Tigers.
The only other time the Scotts Hill Lady Lions were defeated came in a one point loss at the hands of Middleton earlier this season. More details including the boys’ game, player stats, and additional photos will be available in next week’s edition of The Lexington Progress.
